Scheduled maintenance and tune-ups questions
Do I have to go to the dealer for scheduled maintenance?
No. Federal law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) lets you have maintenance done at an independent shop without voiding the factory warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer's schedule. Keep your invoices.
When should a timing belt be replaced?
The interval is set by the manufacturer for each engine and is listed in the owner's manual. A belt that breaks can cause serious engine damage on many engines, so it is replaced on schedule, not when it fails.
Ready when you are
